Addiction therapy and counselling

Addiction therapy offers a private, non-judgemental space to look at your relationship with alcohol, drugs or other compulsive behaviours – and at what they have been helping you cope with.

As an addiction therapist, I offer drug and alcohol counselling for adults at any stage: before making a change, while making it, or in recovery. Sessions are available in person or online.

Who it’s for

Alcohol help, drug help and addiction recovery

You might be drinking more than you want to, using drugs to get through the week, or noticing that a habit, such as pornography use, has started to take over. You might not be sure yet whether it is a problem.

Some people look for alcohol help after a difficult period, or for support with alcohol dependence. Others are in addiction recovery and want support to understand what led there and what helps them stay steady.

You do not need to have decided anything before you begin. Private addiction therapy can start with simply talking about what is happening.

Common reasons

When people look for addiction counselling

  • Drinking more, or more often, than you intend

  • Using drugs to relax, sleep or switch off

  • Hiding how much you drink or use

  • Worry from family or friends

  • Finding it hard to stop once you start

  • Low mood or anxiety after drinking or using

  • Strain on money, work or relationships

  • Wanting support with alcohol addiction and recovery

  • Keeping steady after cutting down or stopping

  • Compulsive habits that feel hard to control

  • Wanting to understand why change keeps slipping away

What to expect

How addiction therapy works

Most people begin with a free initial call, to talk through what is happening and decide whether therapy feels like the right kind of support.

Sessions are confidential and go at your pace. We look at the pattern around drinking, drug use or a habit – when it happens, what it changes and what it costs – alongside what is going on in your life and relationships.

Change is rarely a straight line. Setbacks are treated as something to understand, not as failure.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs

Addiction therapy is talking therapy for people whose use of alcohol, drugs or other behaviours has become hard to manage. It looks at the pattern itself and at what lies underneath it, such as stress, shame, trauma or relationships.
